چکیده

This paper represents Part II of a two-part study in which a new improved version of the microplane constitutive model for damage-plastic behavior of concrete in 3D is developed. In Part II, an explicit numerical algorithm for model M4 is formulated, the material parameters of model M4 are calibrated by optimum fitting of the basic test data available in the literature, and the model is verified by comparisons with these data. The data in which strain localization must have occurred are delocalized, and the size effect is filtered out from the data where necessary. Although model M4 contains many material parameters, all but four have fixed values for all types of concretes. Thus the user needs to adjust only four free material parameters to the data for a given concrete, for which a simple sequential identification procedure is developed. If the user’s data consist only of the standard compression strength and the strain at uniaxial stress peak, the adjustment is explicit and immediate. Good agreement with an unusually broad range of material test data is achieved.

Soft computing-based calibration of microplane M4 model parameters: Methodology and validation

Constitutive models for concrete based on the microplane concept have repeatedly proven their ability to well-reproduce non-linear response of concrete on material as well as structural scales. The major obstacle to a routine application of this class of models is, however, the calibration of microplane-related constants from macroscopic data. The goal of this paper is two-fold: (i) to introduc...

Microplane Model M5 with Kinematic and Static Constraints for Concrete Fracture and Anelasticity. II: Computation

Following the formulation of the constitutive model in the preceding Part I in this issue, the present Part II addresses the problems of computational algorithm and convergence of iterations. Typical numerical responses are demonstrated and the parameters of the model are calibrated by test data from the literature. Microplane Model for Concrete. I: Stress-strain Boundaries and Finite Strain

The paper presents an improvement of the microplane model for concrete-a con~titutive model in which the nonlinear triaxial behavior is characterized by relations between ~e stress and stram c<?m~onents on a microplane of any orientation under the constraint that the strains on the nucroplane are the .proJection~ of the macroscopic strain tensor. The improvement is achieved by a ~ew conce~t: th...

Spectral Stiffness Microplane Model for Quasibrittle Composite Laminates—Part I: Theory

The paper presents the spectral stiffness microplane model, which is a general constitutive model for unidirectional composite laminates, able to simulate the orthotropic stiffness, prepeak nonlinearity, failure envelopes, and, in tandem with the material characteristic length, also the post-peak softening and fracture. The framework of the microplane model is adopted. The model exploits the sp...

On the linearization of the microplane model

The paper addresses the microplane model in the context of localization analysis. Capable of reproducing experimental results of concrete specimens, the microplane model includes anisotropic damage in a natural and conceptually simple and explicit way. However, the efficiency of former microplane implementations suffers from the expense of the solution procedure being based on the secant stiffn...
